Junya Watanabe designs his label as part of the Comme Des Garçons group, known for re-worked classics that bridge the gap between being cutting edge and wearable. Plaid takes its inspiration from Scottish tartan. The first color photograph, taken by a Scottish scientist in 1861, was of a plaid ribbon.
